Finally Got Heat

Day 19 with no heater

If you had told me at the start of this year that I would have gone almost three weeks without heating, I would’ve laughed in your face. There’s no way my family of four could survive without a heater, it would just be impossible. Us humans need heat just as badly as we need shelter and we haven’t had heat in a long time. I’ve actually forgotten what it felt like to be warm. The only semblance of warmth we feel these days is when we’re all huddled in bed together under ten blankets. We have to sleep in the same bed now because we need the body heat to keep us warm. Send help.

Day 21 with no heater

After three weeks, I can happily say that we have confirmation that Canberra’s best ducted heating repairs technician is coming to fix the heating in our home. I burst into tears when he called to tell us his estimated time of arrival (ETA). I couldn’t believe that the day had finally come. We’ve gotten so used to surviving like we’re living in the Ice Age that I can’t actually remember what it was like to live freely in a house without fear of dangerous frostbite. My children are going to be able to play with each other again. I’ll be able to tend to my sticker collection. My wife can do her knitting. I truly can’t believe it.

Day 1 with a heater

Wow! My life has completely changed. I feel free again and safe in my own house. My children have been smiling from ear to ear since the man arrived to complete our heating services. Canberra just isn’t a liveable city when you don’t have heat. Our mental and physical wellbeing significantly deteriorated in our three weeks without heat, and I’m going to make sure that never happens again. I’ve already booked in my next heating service.
